The Color of My Skin🌹
Trouble not yourself son.
It’s just how we found ourselves.
Neither I nor my father could tell.
Our hearts and mind are nothing different from their's.
Where come those refraining glance?
From children and neighbors around.
Why should I be at the receiving end of the lash?
What do they fear and hate about me?
Say nothing of such of yourself.
We are no longer in those prisons.
We won the war a long time ago.
Any that made you so to feel, Or judges you by looks,
Is himself yet a slave and not free.
Don’t consider such wise nor learned.
For when he understands he will do right.
Think of yourself too.
Nothing of such as you hate others do must reign within you.
It’s gross evil to regard another by what they did not determine.
Do not that to another for their color nor beauty
For if we all had a choice we would go with the best.
I will not say fight back for being wronged.
Pity them as one that understands their ignorance.
You, be not pitied, lest your freedom be questioned.
Fear not their oppression.
Only two things oppress us all;
Even sickness and our evil heart.
So as you go out again,
Wear a good face and play, pray, and hope.
